Surround yourself with walkers and you too will become…

Meet my darling Grand daughter! She is determined.

Learning to walk: There were a LOT of falls. Very early on she found out that she could easily walk with help from mom or dad (or both:). You’ve observed this progression, I am sure. The toddler starts to stand and hold on to objects and then will venture on their own which most often leads to falling down.

Sometimes they go back to crawling: this is safer, more familiar. (And closer to the ground)

But…you know what I have observed? They NEVER completely give up on the walking. They just keep on trying.

Why?

I think it is because they are surrounded by walkers. Everyone around them seems to have figured out the motion and the toddler figures… so will I!

What are you trying to accomplish that seems difficult? Maybe it is a new skill or a new lifestyle. Perhaps becoming a person with different ideas and perspective. Whatever it is that you are working towards I suggest you surround yourself with others who have already accomplished the task or ability you are wanting to achieve.

It works for toddlers. I believe it works for us as well.

It is so much easier to stay where we are…closer to the ground. No falls required. Our primal brain wants us to stay safe and familiar. What it doesn’t understand is that we can become so much more!

So…be the determined toddler. Don’t let the stumbles stop your progression. I have never met a toddler who was tracking how many falls they have experienced. Some walk at 9 mos; some walk at 18 or older but they don’t seem to be bothered by this difference at all. They know it is not a race but a progression.

Eventually…they get there. And one thing they all had in common:

They were surrounded by walkers.
