All About Perspective

It’s all about perspective. A different view (or thought) can change everything.

It’s all about perspective. A different view (or thought) can change everything.

As we were running this morning, Shaylee looked out over the (freshly emerging) green valley and said, “What is that pretty green field down there? Have we run there before?” At first glance neither of us recognized it, but upon closer inspection, we realized that the trail running right alongside the green field was a trail we run regularly.

The difference being that we had never seen it from above.

Usually by the time we reach the segment of the trail that traces the pretty green field, we are thinking we are about finished with the uphill part of our run and ready for the steady easy climb back to the neighborhood. I don’t think it had ever occurred to us to look around at this point in the run.

We usually notice the vistas when we emerge at the top of a hill. I wonder how often there is something we are missing that is right next to us. Something we are too immersed in to appreciate.

Also, sometimes we may think that we have to get over whatever it is we are working through before allowing ourselves to relax and see the beauty/feel the joy.

I know this has been a trend for me that my brain has been serving up for years. I have come to realize that it is okay to feel real joy…even if.

Even if…our house is not completely clean.

Even if….we still have that last 5 pounds to lose.

Even if….we are struggling with one (or more) of our children.

Even if….we haven’t heard from that friend in years, unless we reach out first.

Even if….we have not found it in our heart to forgive ourselves of the past.

Even if…we are still struggling.

I say…even if to ALL of it! We were put on this planet to learn, grow and feel ALL the feels; not just the ones that feel hard.

Take a deep breath and give yourself permission to feel the joy. To recognize it as an opportunity. For you. Where ever you are.

If you are having a hard time finding the joy. That’s okay too.

I relate to this concept easily as a Life Coach. I am able to help my clients get a new perspective on the daily.
