Jon’s Mom’s Musings II
When Jon got started he quickly realized his pack would not be big enough.
{He had sent ahead some of his things to a friend in CA where he started}
I wasn't sure what he was going to do. Would he buy a new pack? He texted me saying that he got a great new pack...for FREE!
I wondered how that happened until today.
Part of doing a thru-hike is having packages sent at strategic mile markers to replenish gear/supplies.
Today he made it to his first scheduled package pick up at a Post Office where a package was waiting with his next pair of shoes.
He put them on...and they no longer were his size.
Apparently 200+ miles of pounding can change the size of your foot...who knew?
Luckily there was a Big 5 nearby and my kid who has top of the line gear is now happily hiking in Big 5 specials and feeling awesome about it!
When asked what he did with his shoes that had been sent for him he replied, Oh, I just put them in the hikers box.
Apparently these hiker stops have a box where hikers are able to leave what they don't need and take what they do.
This is how he got his pack.
Someone else {soon} may be happy to find a great pair of shoes.
I love this idea so much!!
Paying it forward: thru-hiker style.
What if we were all able to believe that whatever we did not need, someone else could benefit from. Additionally, if we have a need there will be someone generous and able to provide.
A world of abundance.
So much love from this mama for the hikers box.
